Syn.: Parmelia diffusa auct., non (Weber) Rebent.

Corticolous, mainly on Betula and Fagus, also found on Picea (base of trees) and old Vaccinium stems, mainly inside forests over acidic soil, exceptionally saxicolous, on siliceous rocks.
