On rocks and trees, often over mosses, always in humid and well-preserved forests.

Belgium: Ard.: R→RRR (one locality left, with more than 100 thalli on one tree), Lorr.: RR→RRR (one locality left, with over 40 thalli on 4 trees).

Luxembourg: Ard.: RRR (†1890).

France: - .
