FAQ - Frequently asked questions

What is the technique behind this website ?

This website is written according to the international rules of the W3C.

On the server side, perl comes into action in combination with baseportal databases and templates. The codes transfered to the browser are HTML, CSS, javascript and SVG.

Content (HTML) and layout (CSS) are completely separated to be able to provide a print version of each page which displays contents only.

Javascript is only used to open the popup windows for the distribution maps and the literature. This allows for example to keep the literature information open while browsing through different species.

The species descriptions are displayed in an inline frame, which allows instant rendering of contents without reloading the main page.

All contents sent to a browser should be free of any errors, all pages have been checked with CSS- and HTML-validator of the W3C.
